What Happens When: You get your first Cambodian sickness
Suisaday!
This week was pretty whats the word... normal? despite the fact that one of my companions, Sister Thoun, and I both got some sort of sickness from food... we think...we hope...? I am usually the daring type with food and I thought my stomach was strong as brick, but I guess that's not always the case... ;) I decided to be my daring self, and eat some of this shredded veggies and river/field crab stuff that the other sisters had picked up from somewhere. Probably not the best idea I've ever had, but no worries though, 2 days later, We are both 100% healed and back on our feet! Despite our sickness we had a lot of success this week, our area is on fire with the investigator pool! We are continuing to meet with the golden KimSia. She is preparing for baptism next month and she insists on becoming a sister missionary as soon as possible. She already voluntarily comes out contacting on the streets with us! She brought one of her friends from school, SreyMuay (which literally means "Girl 1") and she is one of our new investigators now too! We are keeping busy visiting our less active members, and a few of them come to church again yesterday! we call that a "rescue". OmDally, the one we help fill rice seasoning bags, is one that we continue to visit each week. She is the sweetest old lady, and you can see the difference in her face when she comes to church. She is so much happier! Even though she lives super far away, we love to visit her.
I have started to realize now that I am getting used to so many weird cambodian things that are so not normal in america. Like everyone and their babies ride little scooter motorcycles, and you can buy almost anything off a little pushable cart. This place is so crazy and I love it! The heat though.... it's here, more is coming, and it's coming FAST. There were 2 days last week where the temp dropped to 69 degrees and everyone pulled out their winter coats. Who knew they sold those here? Apparently this june is going to be the record breaking, hottest june Cambodia has ever seen. BRING IT ON!! I love the work and I love Cambodia! Thanks for the updates and letters. I love you all so much! Have a great week, and don't forget to smile sometimes. <- that is something I have learned here. Everyone is SO nice. miss you all,
Love,
Sister Haddock
When I say intersection traffic, this is what i mean. This is not an actual intersection, it is just in the middle of your average street. Cambodia is jsut very organized chaotic free-for-all!
THE sandwich carts... who knows whats in them, but they're delicious!
